Around the World – 3 Runners
Medium
Around the World is a baserunning drill involving ALL aspects of baserunning. This is a combination drill involving four athletes and all of the basepaths. Because it reviews several different baserunning fundamentals, and there are a lot of moving parts, Around the World should be run after fundamentals have been taught. Its fun, challenging, and it looks impressive to any parents watching practice!!
While a suggestion follows of what each athlete is to execute, this drill can be run with any combination of baserunning moves. Example: Base hit turn vs. Hard-90 on the home-to-first athlete.
EXECUTION – This drill begins with all athletes, standing side-by-side, behind home plate. First athlete steps forward to the batters box, and begins the drill by running from home-to-first (through the bag). That athlete stays at first base, with the assignment of breaking to second base (as a steal) on the coach’s next verbal. At the same time, the second athlete sprints from home-to-first. Both athletes stay at the next base, and the cycle continues:
- H – 1st = Hard 90 (through 1B)
- 1st – 2nd = Breaks
- 2nd – Home = Score
DC KEYS
- Use Your Coaches – Coaches can instruct each basepath.

- 2B Athlete – Secondary & score: Fundamentals first. Shuffle, shuffle, go!
