Wiffle Circle
Medium
Wiffle Circle is an Early Activity drill that can be run during the 15-minutes prior to practice start time. It can also be ran as a pre-game drill to serve as batting practice. Wiffle Circle is a fun way to get extra swings and keep players occupied as more and more arrive to practice. As multiple hitters are engaged, and multiple defenders can corral balls, the level of instruction enforce really can be limited. Instead, emphasize fun and hammer repetitions!
EXECUTION – Involves multiple hitters, 1 vs 2 vs 3 depending on number of athletes present. As numbers increase, add additional hitters. Toss wiffle balls, one at a time, to the hitters and rotate after each has had 4-6 swings. Defense rotates in a defensive circle until they reach the hitting zone. A single on-deck batter, placed well behind the hitters, can grab poorly thrown pitches or swings-and-misses and toss them back to coach area.
Make it fun – throw curveballs or compete with “base hit” round to stay up at bat
