What is: Mental / Finish?
Easy
The final DC practice segment, practice absolute #8, is called Finish / Mental. Dugout Captain recommends using the final 5-10 minutes of practice to cover something in the “other” category. Suggestions include a Life Lesson, current event or topic, team issue, or simply a fun competition. Finish activities can happen in the dugout, beyond the fence if your field time is over, or somewhere on the field of play. Keep it varied: Seated discussion one practice. Mental Exercise with pen/paper second practice. On-field drill next.
EXECUTION – As life truly is bigger than baseball, THIS is the biggest impact we can have as coaches. Without disrespecting on the field instruction, 5-10 minutes spent discussing character, work ethic, winning with class or losing with dignity can stay with an athlete forever.
