No Partner Throwing #1
Easy
No Partner Throwing is designed for the youngest players and run early in the season. The set up and structure allow for safety as athletes will throw into center field – no partners. Additionally, there is a good chance for all athletes to feel successful – they can’t miss the target!
EXECUTION – Throwing takes place immediately after Warm Up and Early Baserunning. No Partner Throwing uses a foul line and “individual dugouts”. Most gear goes to individual dugouts prior to Early Activity, and ALL gear gets there before starting Warm Up. Place individual dugout cones one big step apart. Think of this like a driving range. If possible, place one small Bucket (or a ball pile) of at least six balls behind each cone – 2 Wiffle / 2 tennis / 2 baseballs (safety balls?). Athletes will fire through three sets of throws with ball party pick-ups in between. Remember, athletes must return with the proper combination of wiffle, tennis, and baseballs. However, the do not necessarily need to pick up THEIR throws.
DC KEYS:
- Get Loose First – Take the first set of throws to ensure all athletes get loose. Warm up first, add instruction as comfortable and appropriate.
- Coaching Ratio – Goal is 4:1, but even 6:1 or 12:1 is OKAY with this format. Allows access quickly and easily to all players.
- Layer Instruction – One new piece of instruction per practice. Part 3 will address the arms (cape and cobra, arm path, etc).
