Fundamentals vs How To Coach
Easy
A short video description to describe the differences between Dugout Captain’s Fundamentals videos from the How-to-Coach series. There is a big difference between the actions of a baseball skill (fundamentals)… and the plan to follow for teaching it (how-to-coach). Think: How-to-do vs. How-to-coach! Dugout Captain has had success alleviating a lot of the anxiety or any overwhelming feelings coaches experience through a better understanding of the skill or movement itself
For that reason, many skill sections of the DC Drill Library involve three layers:
- Fundamentals = How-to-Do a skill or movement. These are overview videos, but may also be ran as a drill during practice. Fundamentals should be run to lay an instructional foundation before moving into How-to-Coach series and then various drills.
- How-to-Coach = Dugout Captain’s recommended plan to follow, to teach a skill to players.
- Drills = A variety of drills, organized by skill or position, to reinforce, teach, and develop fundamentals.
One of Dugout Captain’s tenets is to keep it fun and keep it simple. This is as complicated as we’ll get!! For skills such as ground balls, hitting, and pitching, we have a full library of segments: Fundamental overview… “How-to-Coach”… and then Drills. For other skills, we may only have a Fundamentals Video and then the drills. Understanding this organization, DC encourages coaches to get on the field and try it! With the support of a true community, comprised of good people with the kids at the front of their priority list, please join us in a quest to bring FUN back to baseball!
