FUN
Games are supposed to be fun!
Why is it that we lose sight of the fact that the game needs to be fun? When we coach tee ball, we know that they won’t pay attention unless it’s fun. Practice is miserable unless it’s fun. Now we get to seven or eight years old… kids are pitching and everything shifts and it becomes work-like… and there’s failure and winning and losing. “We have to work hard!!”
Where do we lose sight of the fact that, while all of that is true, we still need the GAME aspect? We still need this game to be fun… so that all those lessons, and all that competition and all that development can happen.
FUN is the one constant that has to run from four to 14 to twenty four to forty four, Bartolo Colon. And the world’s greatest coaches, science’s smartest teachers, and the game’s best players all tell us… we perform at our best when the game is fun all the way back to the young guys.
We have to create an environment of fun. We have to ensure that we as parents have fun. Nurture and co-pilot and support our athletes while they have fun playing this wonderful game.
